Scenic roads, great cars and even better company.
Palm Springs Porsche Weekend
Having family members who winter in the Palm Desert area of southern California is a blessing for my family and as you would expect, we take advantage as often as we can. It can provide the break from the Midwest winter.
As we make this trip virtually every winter, we have made friends with some fellow PCA, Palm Springs Region members who we see at the monthly cars and coffee put on by Porsche Palm Springs. This fantastic dealership is a member of the Indigo Auto Group, the same as our very own Porsche St. Louis.
This year we made the last event of the season, celebrating Cinco De Mayo and Porsche Palm Springs pulled out all the stops, including a Mexican themed catered brunch, gourmet coffee bar and mimosa bar, all served in their spectacular dealership among some amazing Porsche’s.
The Palm Springs Region is one of the newest and fastest growing PCA Regions in Zone 8. Carl (Director at large) and Sandi Laufer (Membership Chair) were gracious hosts and terrific brand ambassadors! Given that this was the last event of the Palm Springs “season” the turnout was huge.
We took some time to put some miles on a family members’ 2023 Carmine Red 911 Carrera and drove up the amazing Highway 74 from the Palm Desert to the alpine village of Idlewild. This is an epic drive with some wild switch backs and amazing scenic views as you climb up over some 5400 feet from the desert floor.
Another great destination on our list was Borrego Springs, through some of the best scenic desert vista’s we have seen in years.
The Porsche Club of America often touts that “it’s not just about the cars but it’s the people” and we can clearly vouch for that. We are fortunate to seek out and meet fellow PCA community members on our travels, and this Palm Springs weekend getaway is a great example of just how welcoming our PCA community can be.
This trip ended up being exactly what we needed to kick start us into Spring and reminded us again of the many great scenic drives available to us across our country.
We cannot wait until the next one.
